Below is a translation from the local newspaper in Bad Reichenall:-

“In Mid December, Neil Harmon, the former Leeds, Bradford, Ireland and Great Britain Prop forward, who now runs the “One Rugby Coach” Company, was in Nuremberg, Germany. Neil normally works with various Super League Clubs and their players, but this weekend he was in Germany. Neil was over, due to Germany’s Director of Rugby League, David Griffiths, managing to get his good friend over to run a Training Day, with Germany’s Rugby League players.

Due to the Frozen ground and the temperature not rising above freezing, there was no tackling. Neil as well as David Griffiths and German National player Dan Stocks, taught the Germans ball skills, the art of running angles and support play. How to play and use the defence line etc. The session was recorded and the Players will be giving a DVD to use as a reminder of what they learnt.

The training was finished off with a Bavaria v rest of Germany game which the Bavarians just won thanks to both Neil Harmon and David Griffiths guesting for them. It is planned that each December a training weekend will take place in Germany, where it is hoped that Neil Harmon and other guest trainers will come over.
At the end, Germany Captain Leo Berngruber presented David Griffiths with a Germany top and Neil Harmon a Bad Reichenhall Rugby League top as a thank you for coming over and helping the German players for a day.

One area Germany is lacking in is basic equipment like tackle bags and pads. It is hoped that in 2009 that Rugby League Deutschland, alongside the Rugby League European Federation will be getting some equipment across. However if any clubs can help by sending over any old Tackling Bags or Pads then this would be very helpful. If you know of anybody that can help the German Players and teams then please send an Email to Simon Cooper at simoncooper@t-online.de.”
